Rs 140 Crore for 10 New Driving Schools in India

New Delhi, May 21 (IANS): Ten driving training schools will be set up with an investment of Rs.140 crore by March 2012, the ministry of road transport and highways said Friday.

So far, the ministry has sanctioned seven such institutions in Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana and Tamil Nadu.

The ministry is in process of sanctioning three more institutes in the current financial year.

"Since 78 percent of fatalities occur due to drivers' fault as per 2009 report, the ministry has decided to give a lot of thrust on driving training," the ministry said in a statement.
