Gulbarga: Congress Leader Decries Governor for Impertinent Decision

Daijiworld Media Network – Gulbarga (SP)

Gulbarga, May 21: Senior Congress leader and former deputy speaker of state legislative council, B R Patil, blamed Karnataka Governor, H R Bhardwaj, for behaving in a way that is not in tune with constitutional propriety. “The current political imbroglio in the state has been created because of his rash decision,” he said.

He said that the Governor is not in order in failing to give his nod to a request made by the government that is enjoying majority in the state, for permission to convene the legislature session. “Those who have respect for and knowledge of, the constitution have no other go but to yield to such requests, when it is clear that the government enjoys absolute majority. At the same time, Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and Sonia Gandhi, have taken a right decision in putting the Governor’s recommendation on backburner. This has resulted in a loss of face to the Governor,” he analyzed.

He said that a feeling that the Governor has acted in a partisan manner has spread through out the state. He noted that when Bhardwaj was the law minister at the centre, he had created lot of problems for the then state Chief Minister, Ramakrishna Hegde. He also felt that the Governor, by his action, had indirectly helped Yeddyurappa Government to become stronger.

Patil however, hastened to add that assembly speaker, K G Bopaiah, had not acted in a manner expected of his position by behaving in a way that is against law of justice, for helping the Chief Minister. Noting that the Supreme Court too has censured the speaker for the role played by him in disqualifying MLAs, Patil asked the speaker to step down from his post on his own.
