Census: JD(U) Slams Centre

New Delhi, May 21 (PTI) JD(U) today slammed the Centre's move to conduct caste-based census along with the below poverty line survey, saying it is against the assurance given by the Government in Parliament.

Party chief Sharad Yadav demanded that a separate BPL commission should be constituted for surveying those living below poverty line while the enumeration of caste should be done along with the general census.

"The decision is against the assurance and commitment given on the floor of Parliament. All political parties were unanimous that caste census should be done along with the general census 2011. The government has not accepted these demands," Yadav told a press conference here.

"The government has deviated from the established census procedure in case of caste census.
