Puttur, Dec 13: Rajendra Prasad (42), a native of Sullia Padavu, presently residing at Padil, former national level weightlifter, who was working as a weightlifting coach at Alva’s College Moodbidri, died on December 12 due to cardiac arrest.
Rajendra developed chest pain early in the morning at home. He himself drove the car and dropped his daughter to Sudana School and went for treatment at Chetana hospital. However, before ECG could be taken in the hospital, he succumbed.
When Rajendra was working as chief coach at SDM Engineering College in Ujire, four youths whom Rajendra trained had been selected for international level.
Weightlifter Gururaj Poojary, Ekalavya award winner and silver, bronze medal winner of commonwealth games was Rajendra’s disciple.
Rajendra was identified as a national level weightlifter when he was studying in St Philomena College, Puttur. After his completion of studies, he worked as coach for several years at St Philomena College.
Rajendra is survived by parents, wife and two daughters.
