Udupi, Dec 13: Horekanike procession prior to the centenary year celebrations of St John the evangelist church, Shankerpura was held on Monday December 12. Fr Ferdinand Gosnalves, parish priest Shankerpura church along with other dignitaries flagged off the procession.
Thousands of devotees brought various eatables including vegetables, rice, coconut, and other items. Even the people from other communities also took part in the horekanike procession and offered the offerings.
All the gurkars, presidents of various associations were honored on the occasion by the parish pastoral committee for their selfless contribution towards the centenary celebrations. Churches from Shirva deanery, auto union Shankerpura, JCI Shakerpura, Rotary club Shankerpura, Lions club Shankerpura, Kurkal gram panchayat, various wards of the church, temple committees of Shankerpura, St John’s alumni association and various other associations of the surrounding took part in the procession and offered vegetables and other commodities.
Fr Ferdinand Gonslaves thanked everyone for their cooperation and support.
Fr Anil F Pinto, assistant parish priest Fr Vijay J D’souza, assistant parish priest John Rodrigues, vice president parish pastoral committee Anitha R D’souza, secretary parish pastoral committee Seema Margaret D’souza, convener 20 commissions gurakrs, members of jubilee committee, parishioners and local people took part in the procession.
On December 15 a sarvadharma samavesha is organized as part of the centenary year celebrations. On that day a huge fellowship meal for the general public is also organized.
The centenary year celebrations will be held on December 20 at the church premise. Dr Aloysious Paul D’souza, bishop emeritus diocese of Mangaluru Dr Peter paul Saldhanha, bishop diocese of Mangaluru Dr Gerald Issac Lobo, bishop diocese of Udupi along with other priests will celebrate the Eucharistic celebrations. A felicitation programme will also be held after the Eucharistic celebrations.
