Mangaluru, Dec 13: The 'Mangalore Christian Council' (MCC) is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee on Wednesday, December 14 at Rosario Cultural Hall, Hoige Bazaar Road, Hampankatta, Mangaluru.
The Mangalore Christian Council is a voluntary Body of Christians, under the patronage of the bishops of the Church of South India - The Southern Karnataka dioceses and the Catholic diocese of Mangalore. It has membership drawn from the various Christian denominations in Mangaluru, calling people to live in harmony and peace, promoting unity among Christians and the values of Christ Jesus.
The objective of MCC has always been to bring about a tangible and effective unity among all section of believers in Christ at the local level: through prayer; by fostering better understanding and trust, by pulling down the age-long, man-made barriers of distrust, prejudice and suspicion; serving humanity in the name of Christ; promoting the Gospel values such as love, forgiveness, sympathy, service mindedness, kindness etc., laying greater stress on points of agreement than on points of difference among Christians.
On this occasion of the Diamond Jubilee celebration of MCC, with grateful heart, the council remembers the pioneers, retired bishops, priests and pastors, previous secretaries and many other silent men and women who have strived hard for the cause of unity and co-operation in the society along with all the Christian institutions in Mangaluru, especially St Joseph's Seminary, Jeppu and Karnataka Theological College, Balmatta, who continuously bring the message of unity and solidarity to the humanity.
On this occasion Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of the Catholic diocese of Mangalore will preside over the celebration. The new bishop of CSI-Karnataka Southern diocese Hemachandra Kumar, bishop of CSI-Karnataka Northern Diocese Martin C Borgai, bishop of Malankara Catholic Diocese of Puttur Dr Geevarghese Mar Makarios, will be the chief guests.
There will be felicitation to the new bishop and the former office bearers of MCC. There will also be prize distribution ceremony for all those winners in the Essay Competition conducted by MCC. Members of various denominations, Christian institutions and faith communities will present the Christmas message through Music, Singing, Dance and Drama and entertain the audience. MCC has extended its warm invitation to the Mangaluru public to come and be part of this joyous celebration.
