Bhutan King's Would be Wife Has an Indian Connection


Shimla, May 23 (PTI) Tall and beautiful 20-year-old Jetsun Pema, set to become Bhutan's next queen, has an Indian connection.

An alumnus of prestigious Lawrence School, Sanawar in Himachal Pradesh, Pema would marry 31-year-old Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck in October.

Jetsun attended the school between 2006-08 and passed out after clearing Class XII.

"She was a normal student and never boasted about her Royal connections and we only knew that she was from Bhutan," said a teacher of the school.

"It is a matter of pride for the school but also a surprise for all of us that she would tie the knot with the Bhutan King," he said.

Well-versed in Hindi and English, five feet ten inches tall Jetsun was good in sports and excelled in basketball, recalls her English teacher. "She was very good in studies and was always cheerful and cooperative.
