KDEM Mangaluru Cluster to host 2nd edition of ‘Mangaluru Technovanza’ on Dec 16, 17

Bengaluru, Dec 14: The Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) Mangaluru Cluster will hold its second edition of ‘Mangaluru Technovanza’ at TMA Pai Convention Centre on December 16 and 17.

Announcing details of the event, Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, minister for higher education and IT/BT, said the Mangaluru Technovanza would address the key stakeholders and aims to drive the impact areas for the cluster.

Several programmes spreading across two days comprises of Mangaluru BLUE, Women @ Work (W@W), CEO roundtable, Walkathon and Conference.

To coincide with the occasion, the Mangaluru office of the 'Cashfree' and Udupi office of cloud based 'Niveus Solutions' would be launched.

These companies which have been hand held by KDEM would generate large number of employments, Dr Narayan said.

'Mangaluru BLUE' would feature select shortlisted start-ups pitching their product/service to a group of investors (jury).

'Women @ Work' conclave hosts women leaders in industry, academic and social entrepreneurship to share their experiences and ideas.

CEO Roundtable will be hosted by minister Ashwath Narayan to deliberate upon the key actions for the Mangaluru cluster.

The Walkathon, a 5-km walk, will be joined by students community has the objective of fuelling momentum among all the stakeholders.

The conference on December 17 consists of various panel discussions, keynote addresses and fireside chats by the prominent industry voices, creators, academic leaders, Consul Generals of Global Innovation Alliance (Country partners) to the State Government.

Minister S Angara, leading entrepreneurs including Harshil Mathur, Aakash Sinha, Ravish Narayan, Nikhil khamat, Karnataka Bank MD Mahabaleshwar Bhat, SBI CGM Nandakishore, Manipal Academy of Higher Education CEO Muhammad Zubair, Canara Chamber of Commerce chairperson Ganesh Kamath, STPI Director Ravindra Aroor will be a few among attendees.

UG, PG students can use Kannada, English in Que Paper

In a major decision, it has been decided to provide the option of writing answers in both Kannada and English while attending a question paper of an examination at degree and post-graduation levels.

A decision to this effect was taken at the 23rd general meeting of the State Higher Education Council (SHEC) chaired by Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan.

Currently, students can attend answers for a question paper either in Kannada or English. But the new decision will allow students to write answers for a paper using both the languages. This means, some questions could be attended in Kannada and a few other questions could be answered in English, whichever a student feels convenient.

It is noted here that this facility has been already introduced in polytechnic. Besides this, as per the aspiration of NEP, to promote higher education in regional languages it was decided to undertake translation of qualitative books into Kannada. It was also decided to constitute a high level committee, to make use of technology in achieving this.

The Minister said the meeting decided to make arrangements for tribal studies at the existing Karnataka State Folklore University, instead of setting up a new tribal university.

He also said that as part of observation of the good governance month, Vice-Chancellors and higher officials should visit colleges of in their jurisdiction and examine the progress of instructions. There should be emphasis on research at Higher Education level and it needs more spending, he remarked.

Prof B Thimme Gowda, vice-chairperson, Gopala Krishna Joshi, executive director (SHEC), newly nominated members of the SHEC Prof T V Kattimani, MERCK MD N S Srinath, Raghavendra Krishnamurthy of Bosch Global Software, Prof N Usha Rani, Jogan Shankar, vice- chancellors of public universities were present. Rashmi Mahesha, principal secretary, Higher Education and P Pradeep, commissioner, DCTE also attended the meeting.
