Mangaluru: Manipal School hosts the annual sports meet

Mangaluru, Dec 20: Manipal School hosted the Annual Sports Meet, Manipal Spardha-2k22, on December 17 at the Marena Indoor Sports Complex. The event was conducted in two shifts, with displays and sports activities for Grade III to Grade X in the morning and drills by Nursery to Grade II students in the evening.

The opening ceremony of the morning event commenced with the Guard of Honor by School band and cabinet members escorting the chief guest Dinesh Kunder, superintendent of Customs and Central Tax who is also an athletic coach, to the dais. The event was also graced by D Dilip G Naik, pro-vice chancellor, MAHE, Mangaluru campus principal Anuradha Shivaram; PTA president Arun Raj Rodrigues and vice-president Sachin K J.

The day started off with the lovely rendition of 'Waving Flag'- the promotional anthem of 2010 FIFA World Cup by the choir to uplift the spirit of the athletes.
The school captain Rishabh MG delivered the welcome address. This was followed by safety guidelines by the Health Safety and Child Protection Captain, Pratham Pai. The Inter-House March Past, a highly competitive event where the four houses- Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire and Topaz marched with pride led by their respective house captains was next. Then the Sport meet was officially declared open by hoisting the school flag and releasing the Mascot of the event- Garuda- the mighty eagle, symbolizing the virtue of knowledge, power, bravery, loyalty and discipline. The athletes took an oath to follow true sportsmanship and abide by the game rules led by the sports captain Nada Mariam. Another highlight of the opening ceremony was the Torch Relay led by School Captain Rishabh MG who passed on the torch to house captains, athletes who have won medals and accolades in various sports events and finally to the sports captain Nada Mariam who handed over the torch to the chief guest.

This was followed by the presentation of the Annual School Report by the principal highlighting the various achievements and events in the current academic session and sharing of school experience by students of the outgoing batch of Grade 10 - Tanvi Amin and Adam Christian Lobo. In her introduction of the chief guest,the PE coordinator Parvathi K recounted the various achievements Dinesh Kunder in the field of athletics and wrestling.The opening ceremony concluded with valuable words of the chief guest Dinesh Kunder.

Next,the audience witnessed various displays like Yoga, Karate, Pom-Pom dance and house wise Zumba. The displays made way for the highly awaited athletic events where competitiveness among the students soared high. The closing ceremony began with the prize distribution of various events. The Overall house trophy was bagged by the Sapphire House and Individual Championship Trophies were conferred upon Sushanth and Medha Pradeep of Grade 10. The morning event concluded with a Vote of thanks by the Sports xaptain, Nada Mariam.

The chief guest for the Annual Sports Day - Juniors was Ranjini R Uchil, principal, Kids Paradise, Mangaluru. She was received who was escorted with a guard of honour by the school cabinet and the School Band. The school choir invoked the blessings of Lord Almighty with the school prayer song, followed by the lighting of the traditional lamp. The chief guest was then introduced to the audience by the academic coordinator of Pre-primary section, Sapna S Shetty. This was followed by the presentation of Annual School Report by the principal, Anuradha Shivaram. The Grade 10 students - Anannya Sanjai and Anmol Paul Rodrigues paid tribute to their school with their emotional speeches. Following which the Chief guest Ranjini R Uchil addressed the gathering, She emphasized the importance of sports and co-curricular activities in school for maintaining physical and mental balance, especially in the times when children are prone to gadget addictions.

Display of rhythmic drills performed by students of Nursery to Grade II enthralled the audience. Parents were thrilled to see their tiny tots perform on stage to power-packed music in their vibrant costumes and props.

This was followed by prize distribution for the various sports events conducted throughout the month of November where the prize winners were accoladed with medals and certificates. The official event wrapped up with a Vote of thanks proposed by Hiba Baksh. Later the parents assembled in the outdoor sports ground for some fun-filled competitions like Balancing race and Hoola-Hoop race. Overall the Annual Sports Day Spardha- 2k22 was an event filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to cherish.
