Supreme Court Notice to Chhattisgarh on Binayak Associate's Bail


New Delhi, May 24 (IANS) The Supreme Court Tuesday issued notice to the Chhattisgarh government on a bail petition by Pijush alias Bubun Guha, an associate of doctor-activist Binayak Sen.

The apex court bench of Justice G.S. Singhvi and Justice C.K. Prasad asked the state government to respond by May 31.

Pijush was convicted under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and on charges of sedition. He was awarded life imprisonment.

Appearing for him, senior counsel Prashant Bhushan said the petitioner had already undergone four years of imprisonment.
