Bangalore/New Delhi, May 24 (PTI): The Centre is understood to have sent an advisory to the Karnataka government flagging issues of corruption, illegal mining and protection of minorities.

In a letter to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, Home Minister P Chidambaram is believed to have highlighted issues raised by Governor H R Bhardwaj while recommending President's rule in Karnataka, sources said.

The Centre has already rejected the Governor's recommendations for dismissal of the government and to keep the assembly under suspended animation.

The Governor had referred instances of alleged corruption, resignation of Ministers following allegation of corruption, instances of illegal mining and complaint lodged by Karnataka Lok Ayukta.

Yesterday, when asked what the advisory would contain, Home Minister had said corruption would be one of the issues.

On Sunday, he had said that the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs had directed the Home Ministry to write to the Karnataka government bringing to its notice issues raised by the Governor.

This is perhaps one of the few rare instances where the Union Home Minister himself has sent an advisory to a Chief Minister. Normally advisories are sent by the Union Home Secretary to the state Chief Secretary or by a lower level officer of the Home Ministry to an officer of equivalent rank of the state government.

The Home Minister is also learnt to have asked the Chief Minister to stop alleged discrimination and oppression of minorities in Karnataka and take remedial action for their protection and welfare as it was matter of grave concern, they said.
