Bantwal, May 25: A person named Damu alias Damodar (20) from Kariyangala village, who has been accused of trying to rape an eight-year-old girl, was released on bail after being produced in a court here on Tuesday May 24.

In a complaint filed with the police, the parents of the girl had complained that the accused, who was attending a marriage programme at the home of his relatives on May 20, had falsely told the girl in question, who was also attending the same function, that her parents were calling her. He later took her to the nearly areca nut plantation, and tried to rape her, the complainants said. The incident had occurred at around 9 pm that day. The relatives of the girl, who went searching for the girl, found her with the accused in the plantation. He was handed over to the police, who registered a case and produced him in the court.

The parents of the girl on Wednesday complained to the local MLA, that the accused, after getting released on bail, had threatened them of dire consequences. They have sought stringent steps against the youth, accusing him of indulging in similar activities in the past.
