Mangaluru: Mount Carmel Central School celebrates Christmas, the festival of joy and sharing

Mangaluru, Dec 24: The month of December brings a lot of warmth, hope and glad tidings. Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru wore a festive look with stars, a beautifully decorated Crib highlighting the birth of Christ and an elaborately ornamented Christmas tree. Competitions such as Christmas munchies, Candle decoration, Gift wrapping, decoration making out of waste were, Card making etc were organized for the students class wise.

To spread the message of love and good cheer, the students of Classes VII C and D presented a spectacular programme on the occasion of the world’s most loved and celebrated festival, Christmas. The programme was held on December 23 in the school auditorium. This event was not only a celebration but also an opportunity for students to showcase their talents. 

Meena Barboza, a PTEC member was the chief guest for the programme, which began by invoking God’s blessing through a prayer service. Aneeka Sharma welcomed the chief guest and the gathering. The significance of the day was presented by M Manjunath and Jeanine Gretchen D'Souza.

A classical dance drama was showcased by the students unfolding the events of the birth of Christ. A vibrant choir group carolled and uplifted the Christmas spirit of the audience through their melodious singing of the carols followed by an energetic dance performance to a medley of popular Christmas songs.

The chief guest addressed the gathering with her elevating words and also appreciated the efforts of the students for putting up a beautiful programme. She highlighted the importance of celebrating festivals together as one family and instilling the values of obedience towards one’s parents. Students who have won prizes in various competitions held at school were felicitated by the chief guest and other dignitaries. The principal in her message urged the students to inculcate the spirit of sharing with their families and specially the less fortunate. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks rendered by Royden McKenzie Lobo. The programme was compared by Manav Menon, Mahaniya D Anchan, Akanksha P and Ananjan Ajith Soman.

Christmas cake was distributed to all the staff and the students. The children enjoyed the company of one another sharing kuswar, sweets with their friends in the classrooms.

The staff met together at noon and reflected on the true meaning of Christmas. The two B Ed trainees Sr Judith B S and Greeshma from St Ann’s College of Education were thanked by the principal for their oneness in service with the school for the past 3 months. The family bonding was further knit together at lunch hosted by the management in the Indian traditional style.
