Kaup: Bus owner dies after being hit by car on NH 66, driver held

Kaup, Dec 29: A bus owner was killed in an accident on NH 66 at Kaup on Tuesday night after he was hit by a car.

The deceased is identified as Mahendra Kumar Indra (60), who is owner of Kaup Mahaveera Bus and hails from Jain Basadi family. He is survived by mother, wife, a son and a daughter.

The accident occurred near the Kaup petrol station at 7 pm on Tuesday when the victim was standing at the roadside on NH 66 when he was about to go home when a Mangaluru-bound car travelling from Udupi hit him.

The accident occurred near the Jain Basadi and the spot of accident where Mahendra Kumar died was close to his home.

Mahendra's home was situated right next to the highway. When his brother came out to see what had happened he found brother Mahendra as an accident victim.

Mahendra Kumar was immediately rushed to Udupi Hitech hospital as he had suffered grievous injury to his hands, limbs and head. He was then taken to Manipal KMC Hospital where he breathed his last while undergoing the treatment, hospital sources said.

Based on a complaint filed by brother Jeevendra Kumar Indra, Kaup police have registered a case and arrested the car driver after confiscating the car. Further investigations are on.
