Kasargod, Jan 6: “Protecting the situation of the growth of the language is the main way to protect it,” said K Sachidanandan, president of Kerala Sahitya Academy. He was speaking in the two day long ‘Gilivindu’, multilingual conference held by Kerala Sahitya Academy at Manjeshwar Govinda Pai memorial here.

“There are attempts both to protect and discard languages during the modern times. There are efforts to bring political and social thoughts and culture to one language. Therefore, it is important to preserve the language. Every language has a history of development and creation. Opposition against work for one language in the multilingual conference has begun. Everybody should vow to protect regional culture and qualities by preserving languages. This is the final message of the conference,” he said.

“Languages are the viewpoints of the world. The way we see the world dies when the language dies. It is risky to say a particular language is our language. The noble concept of India collapses when we insist that everybody should speak in that language and exchange ideas. It is the work of the nation in the new era to uphold the basic rights of differences and individual freedom,” he said.

MLA A K M Ashraf presided over the programme. Govinda Pai memorial trust member and author Dr K Chinnappa Gowda and author Dr E V Ramakrishnan gave lectures. Manjeshwar gram panchayat president Jean Lavina Monteiro, Kerala Sahitya Academy vice president Ashokan Charuvil, Kerala Sahitya Academy members E P Rajagopalan, M K Manoharan Ravunni, Grantalaya Parishat district president and former MLA K V Kunhiraman, author Dr A M Sridharan and others spoke.
