Mangaluru: Senior litterateur Sara Aboobacker passes away

Mangaluru, Jan 10: Senior litterateur and writer Sara Aboobacker (87), died in a private hospital on Tuesday January 10 afternoon.

Sara is survived by four sons, scores of her relatives and admirers.

Sara, who is native of Chandragiri shore of Kasargod, settled in the city at Hathill after marriage. She came to limelight through her novel ‘Chandragiri Theeradalli’. She wrote many books and was conferred with countless awards.

Family sources said that funeral of Sara will be held at Zeenath Baksh mosque at Bunder at 8 pm on Tuesday.

Sara, who was the voice of women was born on June 30, 1936 in a village on the shore of Chandragiri. She was the daughter of lawyer P Ahmed and home maker Zainabi. After completing her primary education at Chandragiri, Sara went to high school at Kasargod. She was attracted to the literary field by listening to the stories her grandmother used to tell her. After Sara married Aboobacker, who was an engineer by profession, her education got stalled.

First novel of Sara Aboobacker ‘Chandragiriya Theeradalli’ got published in Lankesh Patrike and won the hearts of readers.

Sara wrote Sahana, Vajragalu, Kadanavirama, Suliyalli Sikkavaru, Paravaha Suli, Tala Odeda Doni, Panjara, Ilijaru, Kanike etc novels. She has written compilation of stories like Chappaligalu, Payana and other stories, Ardharathriyalli Huttida Koosu and Khedda. Her radio dramas include Kamarida Kanasu, Magalu Huttidalu, Theladuva Modagalu, Thala and Heegu Ondu Baduku. Lekana Guccha, Manomi, Bale, Naninnu Nidrisuve are her translations. She has also written a travelogue named Aisharamadalli.

Many awards including Karnataka Rajyotsava award, Nadoja, Karnataka Sahitya academy honorary award, Dana Chintamani Attimabbe award, B Sarojadevi award of Kannada Parishad, Vardhamana award, Matoshree Ratnamma Heggade award, Sandesha award, Anupama award, Masti award, Nripatunga award etc are conferred on Sara Aboobacker.

    RIP. I still remember the drama played in radio based on her novel Chandragiri teeradalli.. The couple in that had talaq and husband wants to live together, but she was forced to spent time with stranger before marrying him again. tearful story it was

    Sara Madam created waves when she wrote a controversial story on her own community...it was named Sarakugalu...this was the Malapurrapam story where young girls used to be married to old arabs for money...the whole community was againt her..stones were thrown in a public function at her in Puttur...Great and gutsy human being..rest in peace madam..
