Udupi, Jan 14: “Peace will prevail in the society when every human being tries to be humane first,” said Kurma Rao, district commissioner (DC), Udupi. He was addressing students at Udupi district level young students’ conference held in Udupi. The program was organized by Young Students’ Movement (YSM), Udupi diocese and Nehru Yuva Kendra.

“Human beings always want to be involved in some or the other activities, it is an inherent thing of human beings. Students should use the sports and library facilities effectively. They should prosper in life by cultivating good habits. They should build a better personality. Young students should use their creative thinking in unique ways and should develop it further. You should be able to describe the places you visit through drawings, poems and writings,” he added.

Wilfred D’Souza of Nehru Yuva Kendra on the occasion said, “As we are celebrating the week of swami vivekananda’s anniversary youths should inculcate his principles in their life. As our prime minister has noted, this century will create a good future for the youths.”

In his presidential address Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop diocese of Udupi said, “Students should step towards the construction of a new society through the youth movement. The way to this is the transformation of society through self-transformation. Observe, criticize as a mechanism of movement through which students should be active in building a sustainable society. Young students’ five missions are living in peace and striving for peace, doing good deeds through small sacrifices and helping the needy, respecting parents, teachers and elders and all human beings and trying every day to protect the environment and develop it, students should strive towards this.”

Addressing the students in an interactive session on ‘Living with peace in society’, Hakay Akshay Machhindra, police superintendent, Udupi said, “We all have to work hard in three dimensions to establish peace in the society. First we must be peaceful individuals, we must be peaceful with others in our family, neighbourhood and society and we must be in peace-harmony with the environment.” He also answered students' questions on fake news, cyber-crimes, students under depression and others.

Fr Vincent Crasta, secretary catholic education society Udupi diocese, Fr Charles Menezes, former international director YSM movement, Fr Steevan Fernandes, director YSM Udupi diocese, Derick Mascarenhas, youth coordinator, Lavina D’Souza, convener, and Melviya Noronha, president YSM were present.
