Islamabad, June 1 (IANS) A Supreme Court judge would head a five-member panel that would probe the Abbottabad incident in which Osama bin Laden was shot dead by US commandos, a media report said Wednesday.

Associated Press of Pakistan reported that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has constituted the commission to investigate the May 2 incident.

The commission will be headed by Justice Javed Iqbal, a senior judge of the Supreme Court.

The other members include Justice Fakhur-ud-din G. Ibrahim, Lt. Gen. (Retd) Nadeem Ahmed, former police official Abbas Khan and Ashraf Jahangir Qazi, a former ambassador.

Osama was gunned down by US commandos who stormed his high-walled hideout in Abbottabad. The incident strained ties between Islamabad and Washington.

A press release said that the commission is mandated to ascertain the full facts regarding Osama's presence in Pakistan.

The panel will investigate the circumstances and facts regarding the US operation in Abbotabad and also determine the nature, background and causes of lapses of the authorities concerned.
