Mumbai: DRI Arrests Man for Involvement in Import Racket

Mumbai, June 2 (PTI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today arrested a person in connection with fraudulent import of high-end cars and duty evasion.

According to DRI, Mohinder Singh, who was arrested today, was the business associate and nephew of the alleged key accused Jang Bhadur Singh, who was arrested in 2009.

Jang Bhadur routinely showed the new cars as old while importing, to claim substantial depreciation and lower the assessable value, DRI officials said.

Bahadur would also wrongly state the model of the vehicle, with a view to import pricey vehicles with undervaluation, and cut down on duties, they said.

According to DRI, Mohinder Singh's role as business associate of Jang Bahadur had come to light in respect of import of a Hummer, two Toyata Lexus, two Hiace Commuter Vans and two Toyata Land Cruisers.
