Mangaluru, Jan 20: “Auto rickshaw drivers should be role models to others by providing good education to their children. Facilities are being provided everywhere for them. Constructing the stand for rickshaw drivers who work ignoring rain and sunshine is comforting to them, their children and families,” said state deputy opposition leader in the state an MLA U T Khader.
He was speaking at the inauguration of auto rickshaw parking stand on the way to Konaje Mangalore University.
“I remember raising my voice as the student leader and senate member in the university. I do not lose friendships because of politics. My former friends are my friends even now. Mangalore University should provide special reservation seats for villagers. There is a need for priority for seats and jobs,” he said.
Mangalore University vice chancellor Prof Yadapadithaya inaugurated the roof at the parking stand.
Chancellor C K Kishore said that the MLA has provided useful facilities for the growth of the university and congratulated the MLA for providing the rickshaw park.
Retired professor Ravindra Rai Kallimar said that one can come across auto rickshaw drivers when in trouble and need to travel. “The facility provided by the MLA for their safety is praiseworthy,” he said.
Konaje gram panchayat president Chanchalakshi, former president Achutha Gatty, Prasad Rai Kallimar, Sudarshan Bhat, Ravindra Rai Harekala, Mustafa Harekala, Ibrahim Kodijal, Abdul Rehman Kodijal, Devanna Shetty, A K Rehman, Deepak Pilar, Konaje gram panchayat former president Shoukat Ali, Nazar Shah Pattori, Sunder Shettigar, APMC former vice president Muttakka, Konaje gram panchayat members Iqbal, Ravikumar Rukya, Premadas, Shobha and others were present.
“Vasanth brothers owned two auto rickshaws in 1994 and were serving the people. There are ten auto rickshaws in the stand now,” said Achutha Gatty.
