Bantwal, Jan 20: A person who had put up a fancy shop due to the Vittal Panchalingeshwara fair was allegedly assaulted by a mob. There were attempts to outrage the modesty of his wife who came forward to prevent them. A case against six persons is registered at Vittal police station in this connection.
The complainant Suresh, a resident of Nerlaje, Bantwal, stated that he was conducting business beside Panchalingeshwara temple due to the fair after obtaining permission from the temple.
Ganesh Kadambu, Manjunath and four others arrived at the shop when he was closing the shop after business at night on January 19, objected to closing the shop, hurled expletives and assaulted him. His wife who came running and tried to prevent the fight too was assaulted and there were attempts to outrage her modesty. As the people gathered, the gang threatened to kill me and fled, he stated in the police complaint.
A case in this connection is registered at Vittal police station and police are conducting investigations. The primary suspect of the assault is said to be involved in various other offences, arrested and released on bail, said the police.
