Udupi: National level open water swimming championship inaugurated at Malpe

Udupi, Jan 21: MLA Raghupati Bhat said that there are talented swimmers in the district and by organizing national level swimming competition at Malpe local talents will get encouragement.

Bhat was speaking after inaugurating the national level open water swimming competition on account of Silver Udupi-Beach festival on Saturday.

Bhat further said that in the month of February national level steady up pedalling and Kayaking competitions will be held at Malpe and there is opportunity to hold all types of water sports at Malpe. There is opportunity for Asian swimming competition also.

Free Kayaking coaching for children was inaugurated at the same time. In addition, cliff diving activities at St Mary’s Island were flagged off.

DC Koorma Rao, SP Hake Akshay Macchindra, Gopal Hosoor, president of Karnataka swimming association, Rama Nayak, Udaya Kumar Shetty and Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty were present.

Satish of Karnataka swimming association, welcomed the gathering and compered the event.
