Beijing, Jun 3 (IANS): Computer maker Hewlett-Packard will recall 78,740 laptop batteries used in HP- and Compaq-series laptops sold in China due to a potential fire risk, China's product quality watchdog has said.
The batteries in question, produced by LG Electronics between July 2007 and May 2008, have a flaw that may cause the batteries to overheat and melt, which could result in fires, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in an online statement.
Xinhua quoted the statement as saying that the company will replace the batteries free of charge. The company previously recalled 15,000 batteries in May 2009 and 19,573 batteries in May 2010 for the same reason.
