Mangaluru: St Agnes CBSE School celebrates 74th Republic Day

Mangaluru, Jan 26: The 74th Republic Day was celebrated at St Agnes CBSE School with an august gathering of dignitaries, teachers, students and parents.

The programme began with the school band escorting the chief guest Sudheer Pai M an former navy officer and currently retired petty officer having experience of 32 years in security and safety field. He was accompanied by school principal Sr Maria Gracilda AC, the administrator Sr Edna Furtado AC and vice principal Sr Lenita Lobo AC.

The students sung the patriotic songs followed by the flag hoisting ceremony. The pledge was recited to commemorate the day. Thereafter, the guests and the students were led to the hall to witness the cultural programme.

The students of grade I and VII presented a meaningful programme on this behalf. A devotional prayer service with melodious prayer song was presented by the students. The audience and the dignitaries were welcomed by a gracious dance. The significance of the day was well depicted by the students of grade I. The enthralling patriotic dances and tableau was presented by students showing the patriotism towards the nation.

The chief guest in his speech congratulated everyone for their performance and expressed his gratitude for inviting him to this auspicious occasion. Being an ex- navy personal shared his experiences and also encouraged the students to join the defence. He urged every student to live by the rights of the constitution and help the country to prosper. His words of wisdom were well accepted with loud cheer from the students.

The principal too gave an important message of oneness and patriotism. She encouraged every student to pray for the nation and to abide by the duties to be excellent citizens of the country. She congratulated the students for their best performance and the teachers for training the students.

On this occasion, the guide captains and the guides were honoured for their service provided in international jamboree held in Moodabidri in the month of December.

The winners of maths talent exam were also honoured for bringing laurels to school at the national, state, district and Taluk level. The school too was presented with the award for Best in National Level. The school has received 32 ranks overall.

To commemorate this day several competitions were held such as fancy dress, symbols using tri-colour, wall hangings and pen stands etc along with notice board competitions with theme of Republic Day history and importance.

The programme was compered by Liba and Ishanvi. The chief guest was introduced by teacher Vinita Maria. The vote of thanks was proposed by Alisha thanking everyone for their presence and wonderful participation. The programme was brought to a closure with the melodious school song and distribution of sweets.
