Media Release

Mangaluru, Jan 28: Fatty liver disease is a very common health problem if undetected will lead to severe liver damage including cirrhosis. Early detection and treatment goes a long way in leading a healthy life.

SCS Hospital offers 'Liver Elastography' to assess liver accurately. The hospital will conduct free fatty liver scan, hepatitis 'B' & 'C' screening camp on January 29 from 9 am to 6 pm.

Symptoms of liver disease: 1. Abdominal pain 2. Weight loss 3. Weakness and fatigue 4. Yellow skin and eyes 5. Dark coloured urine and pale stool 6. Swelling of legs.

Fatty liver can progress through four stages:

Simple fatty liver: There's a buildup of excess fat in the liver. Simple fatty liver is largely harmless if it doesn't progress.

Steatohepatitis: In addition to excess fat, there's also inflammation in the liver

Fibrosis: Persistent inflammation in the liver has now caused scarring. However, the liver can still generally function normally.

Cirrhosis: Scarring of the liver has become widespread, impairing the liver's ability to function. This is the most severe stage and is irreversible.
