Anna Hazare Begins Day-long Fast

New Delhi, Jun 8 (IANS): Hundreds of supporters gathered near Rajghat in the capital Wednesday morning to support veteran Gandhian Anna Hazare and participate in a day-long fast to protest the crackdown on yoga guru Baba Ramdev.

"The government action at Ramlila ground was an attack on democracy," Anna Hazare said at Maharashtra Sadan before proceeding to the fast site to mark his protest. Rajghat is the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi.

In April, Hazare's five-day fast drew widespread support across the country and forced the government to set up a Lokpal Bill drafting panel to combat corruption in high places.

Holding placards with slogans like "This is the second war of Independence", people started thronging the site as early as 7 a.m. although the fast was not to begin before 10 a.m.

There was also high police presence at the site. The fast ends at 6 p.m.

We common people should understand that only well known personalities in the field of social work can take on these corrupt politicians. The Government is actually feeling the heat and hence seriously involved in defaming those social workers like Anna Hazare or Baba Ramdev by trying to find out their drawbacks and levying false charges. Even now people like Anna Hazare can stick on to the one point agenda of pressurising the Govt. to bring back the black money to India for the infrastructure of the country. And the Government at Delhi better inquire in to the assets of all their Ministers rather than single out Baba Ramdev, in a bid to silence him.

Now the supporters got reduced for this token hunger strike, as today fast is sympathy towards action on Baba’s supporters, but Anna is a genuine person & his intentions are very good. He is donating all his money & income to poor people all money he received from different awards has been distributed to needy people. He said have a big family and you will be happy, he mean accept other poor people into your family. I was very much impressed to hear him on a TV program yesterday. God bless him. But Baba Ramadev has done nothing for the poor so far, only amassed wealth for himself. Good that UPA came to know above Baba's hidden agenda on time.

ANNA HAZAREJI we all are with you. But after INDIA got independence there were so many corruptions, there were many cases where government itself attacked people of one community , there were insecular behaviour from one party which is against our constitution. You never went on satyagraha in any of such cases. Now what made you to realise this is attack on democracy. India is not only democratic country it is also a secular country. Hope you raise voice on all these issues.
