Mangaluru, Feb 10: Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing organised the lamp lighting and oath taking ceremony for the 26nd batch of basic B.Sc (N) and the 28th batch of GNM at 10 am at Moti Mahal conventional hall here on Friday, February 10.
The ceremony started with an invocation dance, and then Dr. Theresa Mathias, Professor and Head of Department of Mental Health Nursing, LMCN, welcomed the dignitaries. The programme commenced by lighting of the lamp. Associate professor Patsey Sera Castelino enlightened the gathering on the significance of the day.
In order to show their love and respect for Florence Nightingale, the chief guest for the day, Prof Dr B V Kathyayani, professor and principal, College of Nursing, NIMHANS (INI) Bengaluru, along with Dr. Larissa Martha Sams, principal, LMCN, garlanded her portrait. They also lit a lamp and imparted their wisdom to the nurses.
Florine Veigus, assistant professor, LMCN, delivered the oath to the nursing students, pledging themselves to maintain the obligations of a professional nurse. A serene and melodic music lent solemnity to the occasion as the pledge was read aloud.
In her address, Prof Dr B V Kathyayani emphasised that pandemic had made the society to understand the importance of nurses and the nursing profession while also appreciating the students and urging every person to introspect and realise how they ought to be.
She highlighted that present healthcare workforce demands nurses to be more logical on how they can rise above to take their profession forward.
The students were congratulated by their principal, Dr. Larissa Martha Sams, who also encouraged them to dedicate themselves to the noble profession and emphasised the need for maintaining decency, honesty, and professionalism throughout their careers.
The event was presided over by Ashritha P Shetty, director of the LMET, She inspired the students to get the information and skills necessary to deliver high-quality patient care, and she emphasised the need of management's complete support in supplying the necessary opportunities and resources.
The vote of gratitude was offered by Dr Theresa Leonilda Mendonca, vice-principal and HOD of paediatric nursing at LMCN, and was then followed by a lively cultural performance by the students.
