Mangaluru: St Joseph Engineering College celebrates its 22nd Foundation Day

Mangaluru, Feb 13: Commemorating the Twenty-Second Anniversary of laying the foundation stone of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), the college hosted its annual Foundation Day Lecture on 11 February 2023 at 9:30 AM in Prerana Hall of the college. Dr Krishna Venkatesh, Director, Centre for Incubation, Innovation, Research and Consultancy, Jyothy Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, delivered the Foundation Day Lecture on the topic “Fostering Research and Innovation in Engineering through a Multidisciplinary Mode”.

The program began with a warm welcome from Dr. Purushottham Chippar, Vice Principal and Dean of Research and Development. During his lecture, Dr. Krishna Venkatesh discussed the changes in research and academic practices that have occurred since the year 2000 and the various career options that are now available. He emphasized the importance of multidisciplinary learning, which is not often provided by other institutions, but is offered at SJEC through the utilization of the AICTE IDEA Lab facilities available on campus.

He also brought attention to the lack of multidisciplinary education infrastructure in India, and pointed out that due to the rapidly evolving education landscape, there is no such thing as a permanent job anymore. He emphasized that the future is becoming more multicultural, and that it is important for individuals to have interdisciplinary knowledge. He shared his experiences and challenges from working in the Arctic region, including how he and his team built a drone for surveillance purposes. Additionally, he discussed various initiatives and schemes for starting a startup.

Fr Alwyn Richard D’Souza, Assistant Director, Dr Rio D’Souza, Principal, Dr Purushottham Chippar, Vice Principal, Mr Rakesh Lobo, HR Manager, were present during the occasion. Dr ESTR Chandrashekar, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, moderated the lecture. Ms Jayalakshmi K P, Assistant Professor ,Department of ECE, was the Convener of the event. Ms Ramya M, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering compeered the program.

The program concluded with a felicitation ceremony for the chief guest of the day, Dr Krishna Venkatesh by the SJEC Management as a token of gratitude and respect. Ms Jayalakshmi K P, Convener of the program delivered the vote of thanks.
