Bantwal, Feb 16: BJP members in the town municipal council meeting on Thursday sat in front of the president in protest alleging irregularities in awarding CCTV contracts in the TMC limits.
The members said that the cameras have not been working properly for some time despite repeated complaints.
The president, chief executive, engineer and ruling party members failed to persuade the members to give up protests. Finally it was decided to postpone the meeting to Feb 21 after obtaining the technical report of the third stage.
Complaints about roadside business, drinking water issues and encroachment of road sides were heard in the meeting. The deputy commissioner and PDO have participated in the irregularities, said member Govinda Prabhu. He said that the gearbox of the vehicle carrying trash was missing. “The bills of the contractor have not been paid. Trash has piled up at the Kanchikar market. Waste water is flowing into the Nethravathi river but the administration is quiet,” he said.
Vice-president Jacinta D’ Souza and chief officer M R Swamy were on the dais. Members Mohammed Nandarabettu, Lukman, Idris, Vidyavati, Devaki, Shashikala, Meenakshi Gowda, Janardhan Chandthimar and others took part in the discussions.
