Bantwal, Feb 17: “A video footage that allegedly insults the Dalit community by Yakshagana artistes during the staging of the Kateel Mela play at a temple in Tirupathi has gone viral. The incident will be condemned,” said Bantwal taluk Bharath Rathna Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Samaja Seva Sangha president Sathish Aral.
“Well known Yakshagana artistes Sunnambala Vishweshwara Bhat and Dr Mahesh Sanoor have insulted Dalits by mouthing some objectionable dialogues in the play. The Dalits condemn it,” he said.
“The matter was discussed with temple trustee Harinarayana Das Asranna who apologised on behalf of the artistes and promised that suitable guidelines will be issued to the artistes in the future,” stated Sathish Arala in a press release.
