Udupi: Billawa, Mogaveera communities neglected in budget - Ramesh Kanchan

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Feb 18: “Chief minister (CM) Basavaraj Bommai who falsely assured that he will announce separate corporation for Billavas in the name of Brahmashree Narayana Guru and special package for fishermen in the budget for 2023-24 has completely neglected Billawa and Mogaveera communities in the budget that was presented on Friday,” said Ramesh Kanchan, president of Udupi Block Congress committee.

In a press statement, Kanchan further said, “Billawa and Mogaveera communities have the highest number of people in the coastal region of Karnataka. Though the Billawas demanded separate corporations for them and held several protests, CM Bommai did not utter a word about the same. This shows that BJP does not have any concern towards the Billawa community.

“MLAs Sunil Kumar and Raghupati Bhat took leaders of Billawa community to the residence of CM Bommai to show that they have made great achievements and felicitated Bommai. Immediately after the felicitation, CM Bommai promised to establish Brahmarshee Narayana Guru Corporation for Billawas. He has cheated the Billawa community. He did not announce any package to the Billawa community which has 60 lac people in the state. Billawas will give a fitting answer to this cheating in the coming days.

“Similarly, there is no mention of increase in the number of Matsyasraya house promised to be given to the Mogaveera community. Even the houses that were promised in the previous two budgets are not given to the fishermen.

“Farmers are facing numerous issues these days. Crops are destroyed due to attacks by wild animals. On the other hand no announcement with regards to support price is made in the budget. In the budget farmers are given least importance.

“Civic workers held two days of protests urging the government to fulfil their demands. CM assured that action will be taken to recruit them permanently. However, in the budget, no mention of the promise is made. This is a clear cheating done to the civic workers of the state.

“Just for the sake of elections, colourful announcements are made in the budget by CM Bommai. One cannot expect much from the budget as the government departments are saying there is no grant to release for any project. CM Bommai has made his budget limited only for assurances. It is a budget that is presented to fool the public,” he stated.
