Vadodara, Jun 14 (PTI) Congress leaders in Gujarat today lashed out at yoga guru Baba Ramdev and social activist Anna Hazare accusing them of trying to undermine the country's Parliamentary democracy system.
Senior party leader Siddharth Patel criticised the Hazare-led civil society representatives and said they cannot assume the powers of democratically elected members.
"Parliament elected by the people is the supreme body for taking any decision on issues raised by the civil society.
The civil society cannot assume powers of elected representatives of Parliament," said Patel, a former Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president, at a function in Savli town here.
"It is the people who elect the government or throw it out of power. How can a group question the government's sovereignty?," he asked.
Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Arjun Modhwadiya questioned Ramdev's motive for undertaking a fast on the issue of graft and black money.
