Panaji: Two Goa Cops Booked for Dowry-related Harassment


Panaji, June 16 (IANS) A sub-inspector and a deputy superintendent of police were Thursday booked for harassing the former's wife over dowry.

According to superintendent of police Arvind Gawas, sub-inspector Sanjiv Khandeparkar and his eight other relatives, including Deputy Superintendent of Police Eknath Gawde, have been charged for dowry-related harassment and criminal intimidation.

The complainant, a resident of Gaunem-Bandora village in Ponda sub-district, some 30 km from here, has accused her husband Sanjiv and his relatives of repeatedly demanding dowry from her and threatening her with dire consequences.

"The complainant has said in her statement that she was being harassed for a long time and was also threatened by her husband to send her back to her maternal home," a police officer said.
