Vidhula, III BA will be the student coordinator.

The lecture will investigate how the legacy of ideas and practices attributed to the tradition of Bhakti have shaped the vision of moral order that underpins Indian modernity. A puzzle can arise in the context of such exercise. It pertains to how the vocabularies associated with Bhakti have historically lent credence not only to emancipatory visions but also to ones that are ridden with hierarchies. Keeping this puzzle in mind the lecture will offer arguments for considering plausible links between Bhakti on the one hand and the cultures of secularity and democracy in modern India on the other.

The public lecture will be held on March 13 at 3.00 pm in the LCRI Hall of St Aloysius College by the arts faculty in collaboration with the UGC-STRIDE Scheme. The event is dedicated to the memory of late Dr Norbert Lobo, a former director of the arts faculty.
