Udupi, Mar 13: United Dalit Protest Committee urged strict legal action against all those who are responsible for the death of Subbanna, manager of Mahalaxmi Cooperative Bank, Malpe.
Speaking at the press conference in the city, Manjunatha Giliyaru, chief convener of the committee, said, “Subbanna was a nice person. He did not get involved in any quarrel or police case. He was promoted on the basis of his work. He was even felicitated by the bank.
“On March 8, Subbanna killed himself at a hotel in Malpe. A death note was also available near the dead body. Based on the death note, Subbanna’s brother Suresh Malpe has registered a case in the police station.
“In the death note, Subbanna mentioned about the mental pressure exerted by the administrative committee of the bank. A case is filed against president of administrative committee Yashpal Suvarna and five others. There is a possibility that the police will be pressurized by ruling BJP in this case. Hence, the police should conduct impartial inquiry,” he said.
Dalit leader Sundar Master said, “It is common for administration committee to have more pressure in the month of March due to various reasons. But in this case, Subbanna has killed himself due to extreme pressure on his mind. It is seen that in the director board of the bank, there is no representative of SC community. In addition, police were delaying to register the case on the day of the incident. Police should hold impartial inquiry into this case.”
Harish Salian, Shekhar Hejmady, Shyamsundar Thekkatte, Vijay Kota, Anand Brahmavar and others were present.
