Mangaluru, Mar 13: ICYM Pallotti Youth, Farla organized 'Gavnche Khel’ on Sunday, March 12 at Our Lady of Vailankanni Church Ground, Farla. The slogan for this event was to bring unity, to show our creativity in our traditional games to our children.
The day was started with the way of the cross and celebration of the holy eucharist. The celebrants were Fr John Pereira, Fr Sunil Miranda and Fr Melvin D'Souza. Soon after the mass the breakfast was given to all the parishioners.
The event was inaugurated at 9 am on the church ground. For the inaugural ceremony Fr John Pereira (parish priest, director) was the chief guest followed by Fr Sunil Miranda (assistant director) honorary guests such as Fr Melvin D'Souza, Naveen Menezes (vice president) Hilda Pereira (secretary) Sunitha Rodrigues (commission's coordinator) Zita Menezes (youth coordinator) Steevan Robert (youth animator) Rolin Rodrigues (youth president) Deelia Rodrigues (youth secretary) Anil Sequeira (ICYM central council president), Prajwal Lopes (former-Karnataka regional president) Frayal (representative of ICYM Bantwal deanery) Lokayya Dande (judge) Fr Rahul Dextor (director of ICYM Bantwal deanery) Melroy D'Souza (president of ICYM Bantwal deanery) were present for this inauguration and they were given the token of mementos.
Gavnche Khel started following the inaugural welcome speech by ICYM Pallotti Youth president Rolin Rodrigues. There were fourteen games namely weaving coconut leaves (modla volche) peeling of coconut cover (narl solche) making the broom with coconut leaves (sarun karche) making a helmet with arecanut leaves (khandi karche) rope weaving out of paddy (yento volche) peeling of arecanut (bhedo solche) pull the cart from arec leaves (povllinth basun vodche) scrapping coconut (narl kanche) tug of war, rice packing from paddy leaves (mudo banche) pull the truck, kite making, relay and so on. The participants were from the nine wards.
They actively participated and gave a good competition. ICYM Pallotti Youth Farla organised this event to unite and to make aware about the traditional games. This event ended with the vote of thanks by Deelia Rodrigues (secretary). The master of ceremony was done by Reshma.
