Udupi, Mar 15: Thieves have reportedly stolen gold ornaments worth Rs four lac from a railway passenger.

Puneeth Vasanth Hegde (69), a resident of Kuthyar, Kaup, had booked to travel with her family on March 14 on a Mangaluru-Mumbai express train.

They boarded the train at Indrali railway station at 3.35 pm. Puneeth had kept her gold ornaments in a cover in between the clothes inside her vanity bag and had hung the bag on her shoulders. She found that the zip of her vanity bag was opened when she was sitting in the train and the cover of gold ornaments kept in the bag was missing.

Unidentified thieves reportedly opened the zip of her vanity bag and stole the gold ornaments and a wrist watch from there. The approximate weight of the gold ornaments was Rs 100 grams valued at Rs four lac. As the cost of the missing watch is Rs 3,000, the total value of the stolen items was Rs 4,03,000. A case in this connection is registered at Manipal police station.
