Mangaluru, Mar 16: A woman from Delhi was stabbed to death near Kotepur bus stand in the evening of Thursday, March 16. A youth from Delhi who was with her is currently on the run after switching off his mobile phone.

The victim was aged between 35 to 40 years old, while the suspect, Nazeem, is 30 years old. The couple had arrived in Kotepur two days prior and rented a house from Hameed, a local salon owner, near the Kotepur bus stand. They had claimed to be selling children's clothes and were expecting a load of clothes.

A local resident became suspicious after noticing that they had not left their home the previous night. Upon investigating, the local resident found the victim's body in the toilet, with blood stains on the mat and a nearby knife used for the murder. The Ullal police arrived at the scene and conducted an inspection, with forensic and fingerprint experts collecting evidence.

Police had difficulty identifying the victim, as the house owner had failed to obtain her identification proof. However, the suspect's Aadhar card was found at the scene, with the mobile phone registered in West Bengal. The suspect had claimed that the victim was his mother's sister when renting the house. Kotepur has several factories extracting fish oil, attracting workers from outside the state.

Ullal police inspector Sandeep has stressed the importance of collecting identification documents when renting out properties. The incident was reported at 3 pm, and the forensic team arrived at 7 pm, with locals accusing the police of delaying their response and potentially destroying evidence. While the police took photos, locals urged the police commissioner's team to conduct a full investigation.
