Hyderabad, Jun 21: A day after the confiscation of Rs 35.5 lac from a car belonging to the Sathya Sai Central Trust, a few devotees of Sai Baba came out in the open clarifying that the money seized was meant for constructing a 'Maha Samadhi' for the late spiritual figure.
The devotees also submitted a written statement in this effect to the Chilamattur police officer.
They claimed that the devotees pooled in the money to contribute to the construction of the Samadhi at Prashanti Nilayam.
The amount was meant as payment for the purchase of marble and other works related to the Samadhi, they said, adding that the trustees were requested to take the money to the Mandir to seek Sai Baba's blessings before handing it over to the contractor.
They also urged the authorities to release the money so that the work on the construction of the Samadhi could begin.
