Mangaluru, Mar 17: Dr Mohan Alva, the President of Alvas Education Foundation, emphasized the importance of preserving Kannada language and its culture while inaugurating the first Kannada literary conference of Ullal taluk, organized by Dakshina Kannada Sahitya Parishat in cooperation with Mangaluru University at the Mangala Gangothri campus. The conference aimed to promote Kannada language and literature.
Speaking at the conference, Dr Alva highlighted the role of Kannada medium schools in the growth of language and culture, adding that Kannada medium schools have played a primary role in this regard. He also noted that the government should take measures to preserve Kannada medium schools, which have a significant place in history.
Dr Alva lamented that the government has encouraged English medium schools, CBSE, and ECSE schools through the back door, and called for the preservation of Kannada medium schools. Other dignitaries who attended the conference included MLA U T Khader, who was the chief guest, and former MLA Captain Ganesh Karnik, who conveyed his wishes.
During the conference, Mumbai-based entrepreneur Sadashiva Shetty Kuloor was felicitated with the Gadinada Sadhaka award, and books and other shops were inaugurated by vice chancellor Professor P S Yadapadithaya. The conference also included discussion forums and cultural programs. The event was compered by Dr Arun Ullal and postgraduate student Sridevi, while the vote of thanks was given by Treasurer Chandrahasa Shetty Deralakatte.
