Warangal, Jun 21: Telangana ideologue Kothapalli Jayashankar passed away at the age of 76 after prolonged illness, here on Tuesday June 21.
Jayashankar was being treated at a hospital in Hyderabad as he was suffering from cancer.
After he was brought back to his house at Hanamkonda here, he breathed his last on Tuesday morning, family sources said.
A native of the district, Jayashankar did his early education in the town and later did his post-graduation and PhD in economics from Banaras Hindu University and Osmania University in Hyderabad.
Jayashankar worked as a lecturer and become the vice chancellor of Kakatiya University here.
He had been been an active member of the seperate Telangana and had participated in the separate statehood agitation in 1969.
It was Jayashankar who offered lime juice to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao when the latter broke his fast for Telangana in December, 2009.
The TRS president left for Warangal immediately on hearing the news of his death.
Rao and other Telangana leaders across the political spectrum expressed sorrow over the death of Jayashankar.
