New Delhi, Jun 21: On Tuesday June 21 both the civil society and government met for the last time to discuss the Lokpal Bill draft, but could not arrive at a consensus on several issues.
Kapil Sibal, talking to the press after the meeting said that there were at least eight key issues that could not be resolved. He slammed Team Anna for sticking to their demands and said, "We cannot have a parallel government at the centre, only a democratically elected government can be allowed to function, and everyone must respect that. Anna and his team must understand this fact."
The government draft has excluded the Prime Minister from the Lokpal ambit, which has brought disappointment to the Anna camp.
The civil society and the government exchanged their drafts and both will be merged as one and circulated among the political parties, after which a detailed discussion will be held.
Meanwhile, a disappointed Anna Hazare told reporters that there was no other way than going for another fast on August 16, as planned earlier. Government does not seem interested in drafting an effective Lokpal Bill, he said. Fighting through fast seems to be the only way, he said.
