Bantwal, March 24: “The country cannot be run by the agenda of fanaticism. The values of democracy and politics collapse due to it. People are being incited by sentimental talk,” said author and leader M G Hegde.

He was speaking in the Prajadhwani rally at Mogarnad, Narikombu grama, Bantwal on Thursday, March 23, in the night.

“If we ask for development, we are made to close our mouth with some other talk. There are people who get up and go if we speak about the price of a gas cylinder. They are saying that Congress did nothing during the last 70 years. There has been a BJP MP in Mangaluru for the last 30 years. What has he done? Did the roads, airports, ports, colleges crop up immediately when BJP took up power? Let us discuss development instead of giving speeches based on religion dividing people. We should not sit quietly against those who register cases without being able to tolerate political statements and criticism. This is an example that political leaders are not accepting criticism in a healthy manner. It is unfortunate that BJP is giving rise to violence, anger and intolerance,” he said.

Engineering college for the taluk

Former minister Ramanath Rai said that he will try to get approval for establishing an engineering college in the taluk, a large stadium at Benjanapadavu and the facilities conducive to it if he wins elections.

“I was into sincere politics providing help across religion and castes. Some are speaking about Rajadharma in speeches. Being revengeful is not Rajadharma. I had lost elections even after doing good work if you ask about my work under the right to information. BJP is worried about the sources of our money for implementation of guaranteed projects. Congress does work after careful thinking and does not put hand into the pockets of poor people like the BJP,” he said.

Convener Pius L Rodrigues, Baby Kunder, Sudeep Kumar Shetty, Prakash Karanth, Sudarshan Jain, Sanjiva Poojary, Sadashiva Bangera, Padmanabha Rai, Mohammed Sharif, Alphonse Menezes, Chandraprkash Shetty, Padmashekar Jain, Jacinta D’ Souza, Ravindra Safalya, Umesh Bolanthoor, Chittaranjan Shetty Bondala, Chandrashekar Poojary, Aida Suresh, Joswin D’ Souza, Jayathi Poojary, Siddik Guddeyangadi, Lolaksha Shetty, Sunita Padmanabha, Sampath Kumar Shetty and Anand Salian were present.

Edthoor Rajiv Shetty and Balakrishna Alva Kodaje presented a list of work done by Ramanath Rai. Entrepreneur Prakash Karanth gave details of the contribution of Ramanath Rai to Narikombu grama during his term.

Bantwal vidhana sabha block Congress publicity committee convener Umesh Safalya welcomed and rendered the vote of thanks.
