Tortured and Starved for Days by Pirates - Sailors

After being tortured for 10 months at the hands of the Somalian pirates, the six Indian on board M V Suez , finally got united with their respective families on Friday June 24.

The sailors who had given up hopes on seeing their families and friends again could not believe that their nightmare was finally over.

N K Sharma, one of the rescued sailors said that they were beaten with random objects when the pirates were drunk. He also said that apart from being tortured, they were starved for days together.

Ravinder Singh, said, “After waiting 10 months for this day, I feel happy. I thought we would be killed.”

The vessel ran out of fuel and faced danger of capsizing which worsened their fears, said Sharma.

Prashanth Chauhan, another rescued sailor said that even after the Pakistani activist facilitated their release, the sailors were not sure of their freedom. Only after they boarded the Dubai-Delhi flight, they knew that the ordeal was over.

The rescued sailors, however, refused to comment on the role played by the Indian government in facilitating their release.

The sailors were picked up from the waters of Oman and were taken to Karachi by the Pakistan Navy PNS Zulfiqar on Thursday june 23.

The crew was brought to Karachi on Thursday June 23 by the Pakistani Navy warship PNS Zulfiqar.

The Egyptian owned M V Suez was first boarded by the pirates in August 2010.
