New Delhi, Jun 25: Congress president Sonia Gandhi, in a bid to rein in differing voices within the party, reportedly said during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting that only party spokespersons would be allowed to express the party's views.
Apart from the Congress spokespersons, only media head of the party Janardhan Dwivedi will be allowed to air the party's stand on any matter, sourced said.
The move is seen as a snub to Digvijay Singh, whose remark over Rahul Gandhi that it was 'time' for him to be the PM was construed as a hint that he looked for a change in leadership at the Centre. The statement had attracted much criticism from the opposition and Singh had to scramble to set things right.
"I think it is time that Rahul can become the Prime Minister... " Singh had said, but later he insisted that he had not meant any disrespect for Manmohan Singh and that he only wanted to see Rahul as the PM during his lifetime.
Soon after the meeting, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi had a separate meeting, however, details of the meeting were not immediately known.
It is learnt that union minister Mukul Wasnik had suggested to Sonia Gandhi to take steps to ensure that there were no differing voices within the party.
