Defamation case: Patna court summons Rahul Gandhi on April 12

Patna, Mar 30 (IANS): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been summoned by Patna MP-MLA court on April 12 to record his statement on a petition filed by BJP senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi over his "Modi surname" remark.

Sushil Modi has levelled criminal defamation charges against Gandhi for making statements against people with Modi surname.

The court has directed Rahul Gandhi's lawyer to appear before it.

Rahul Gandhi, during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign in Karnataka, said that all people having Modi surname are thieves. He had also said that Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi had taken away thousands of crores of rupees and fled the country.

Apart from Sushil Kumar Modi, former road construction minister Nitin Navin, Bankipur MLA, BJP leader Sanjiv Chaurasia and Manish Kumar, BJYM leader have already recorded their statements as witnesses in the court.

After the conviction by the Surat court, the Congress has taken a tough stand over the conviction. As per sources, Rahul Gandhi may appear in Patna MP-MLA court as well.

On March 23, a Surat court convicted the Congress leader for speaking ill of Modi surname and sentenced him to two years imprisonment. This led to his disqualification from Parliament as member from Kerala's Wayanad constituency.

BJP surely has lots to hide and run away from the peoples queries of india. Why targeting person of no value. First Surat now Patna. Wasting our hard earned tax money. Poor people need food, houses and jobs. That is more important. China and Pak danger is more real, it is no joke . Why are they not worried about this. Are we people suppose to worry and they are having holidays in the name of election.

Feel sorry for Rahu. His or Congress the legal advisor is just a 'dakkan'. Thats all. One well drafted clarification stating that he was only addressing the 'thieves' and not the entire community, would have saved the situation then and there . The ploy to project as 'victim' will not take traction now. IPL , Lalit Modi from England too is threatening to take legal action! . Being defiant , would only prove to be behaving above the law, that is not appropriate where Congress stands today.

Lalit Modi, Nirav Modi probably are the next to get into BJP washing machine to come clean. It happens only in India, with celebration all around.

Ha ha ha. I guess all the Modis in India will file a defamation case now. So now it looks that blaming the Govt was a futile exercise. RaGa could have clarified his stand by just saying 'My intention was only to target Nirav Modi, and PM Modi and not the entire Modi community. I have great respect for others. If anyone else has felt bad, it was purely unintenional , trust me, I am sorry '' Thats all. The case would have been unheard off. Now after so much of ruckus , protests, calling PM a coward , involving other opposition parties, other countries like US, Germany etc , and eventually apologizing now would look very sheepish.

One cannot expect "I am sorry" from a person who thinks of himself as king and others as his subordinates. Moreover, in his party there are people like Pramod Tiwary (Rajya Sabha MP) who said that "Rahul Gandhi's family should be treated differently by law", so there is no room for correction.
