Udupi, Mar 30: Delegation of district working journalists’ association met SP Akshay Haake Machindra on Thursday and urged him to take action against fake journalists who are threatening certain citizens for monetary gain.
In the appeal that is submitted to SP, the association urged, “Udupi district working journalists’ association, which is affiliated to Karnataka working journalists’ association, has 170 honest members. However, recently, certain individuals are collecting money in the name of our association and some renowned journalists. We have come across such incidents.
“There is no need to give money to publish or telecast news in any newspaper of TV media channels. Even then some fake journalists are collecting money. Our association has received such complaints. Action should be taken against such individuals.
“Similarly, we have also received complaints about people misusing stickers of media and press on vehicles in order to get through police check posts that are set up throughout the district in wake of upcoming legislative assembly elections. Vehicles of this kind should be checked in police posts and strict action should be taken against impersonators.
“Authorised identity card and stickers are given by our association to our members. If anyone attempts to collect money, complaint should be raised against such people with the police and also the same should be brought to the notice of our association,” the association urged.
