Fake Certificate Racket: Three Held in Delhi


New Delhi, Jun 28: At a time when students are trying hard to get into colleges and colleges increasing their cut-off to an unattainable high percentages, three persons have been held for providing fake certificetes to students who were admitted to various colleges in Delhi University (DU).

Mastermind behind the scam 26-year-old Himanshu Gupta and his accomplices managed to get 13 students to DU's top colleges using false caste certificates. Delhi police is also investigating whether his cousin and brother were admitted through same means.

All certificares were issued from the tahsildar's office of Mehrauli area in the capital. Data regarding the certificates were also uploaded to the official website which made its verification possible.

Colleges were asked to give details of all the staffs involved in the admission process.

College authorities refused to comment but are probably waiting for the police to finish investigation before taking any action against students.

Students say the high cut-offs at DU could have made students to resort in such wrong measures.

The gang had been operating since 2008 and around 30 students were enrolled since then.

Investigations are on to find links of the racket in other cities , police are now questening students and their family members.
