Violent Protests in Kerala Over UDF's Edu Policies

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 29: The UDF government's educational policies were condemned by the members of CPM students' wing during a protest here on Wednesday June 29.

The protests were led by student wings of SFI, AISF, CPI(M) and CPI.

Clashes ensued and police had to intervene when the members of Students Federation of India (SFI) barged into the state secretariat.

Both protestors as were policemen were injured in the clashes. The protestors tried to break barricades and pelted stones at the police while the latter resorted to lathicharge, water canons and tear gas.

The police in the end managed to control the situation and disperse the crowd which retreated into the University College.

The students were protesting over the issue of self-financing in college admissions. Students with allegiance to Left parties have been over the past few days protesting against the UDF government for letting self-financing colleges flout policies regarding the quota system.
