Thousands of Devotees Set off on Amarnath Yatra

Srinagar, Jun 29: Over 20,000 devotees began their Amarnath Yatra from Baltal and Pahalgam base camps.

To mark the start of the annual pilgrimage, governor N N Vohra who is also the chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) performed the pratham pooja (first prayer) inside the cave shrine.

Arrangements have been made for yatris supported by the state government and security agencies.

While over 13,000 pilgrims who took the Baltal route will be reaching the shrine on Wednesday June 29, around 9,000 pilgrims who set on a two-day trek to the holy cave through the traditional Pahalgam route are said to reach on Thursday June 30. Yet another batch of 2,185 pilgrims have left on Wednesday June 29 from the Bagwatinagar base camp.
